Welcome to the Sherwood Forest Civic Association
Nestled beneath the Midtown skyline and framed by Peachtree Street, the Ansley Golf Club, and the Atlanta Beltline, Sherwood Forest is a serene escape in the center of the city. Known for its lush canopies and winding, sidewalk-free streets, our neighborhood offers a unique blend of suburban tranquility and urban energy.
A Legacy Centuries in the Making
Sherwood Forest sits on land rich with history. Our neighborhood proudly hosts the homestead of George Washington Collier, Atlanta’s first postmaster. While historians debate if it is truly the oldest home in Atlanta, the Collier family’s roots here date back to 1823.
Originally part of a 600-acre wooded estate, the land remained in the family until after WWII, when the neighborhood we know and love today was founded. As former owner and Insurance Commissioner Jimmy Bentley once said of the property: “I can stand in his smokehouse and smell the memory of 19th-century hams.”
Our Community
Today, Sherwood Forest consists of 200 homes and a diverse mix of neighbors—from those who have called this forest home for 60 years to those who arrived just six months ago.
